All amateur artists learn from those more proficient than themselves. I began by trying to copy the paintings of others and gradually moved on to changing the colour or content in some way. As time progressed, I utilised simple sketches done by other artists, adding my own colour interpretations. Now, I often paint from photographs.
The ’*’s alongside paintings indicate my prime sources of inspiration.
* David Bellamy - the renowned professional artist. I have benefited greatly from his publications and I have made use of his drawings and undeveloped paintings to produce my own attempts.
** the late Eddie Askew, talented artist, missionary and President of the Leprosy Mission.
I have adapted some of the sketches and drawings contained in his excellent booklets of meditations and prayers.
*** I have also used the work and techniques of - Gordon Beningfield, Ann Blockley, Raymond Harris Ching,Trudy Friend, Ferdinand Petrie, Ron Ranson, Hazel Sloan, Zoltan Szabo, and Wendy Tait amongst others some of which are unknown.
